Give your baby-making efforts the best chance
If you drink more than a glass of wine a day, you might be reducing your chances of getting pregnant.
Planning to have a baby?
If you drink more than a glass of wine a day, you might be reducing your chances of getting pregnant. A recent study in the British Medical Journal showed that just five drinks a week could significantly reduce the chance of conception. So, if you’re trying for a baby, the best advice is to avoid alcohol altogether completely.
Affects both of you
As well as making it more difficult for women to get pregnant, drinking alcohol lowers sperm counts in men too. For the best chances of conceiving avoid alcohol completely.
When you do get pregnant
When you are pregnant, your unborn baby’s health will obviously be your priority. There is evidence that even drinking one or two units a day can lead to health and development problems for baby. Any alcohol you drink while pregnant will reach your baby via the placenta and may cause harm.
There is no 'safe' time for drinking alcohol during pregnancy and there is no 'safe' amount. Drinking no alcohol during pregnancy is the best and safest choice. For more information on pregnancy, birth and parenthood go to www.readysteadybaby.org
